The Bishop Gallery preserves hip hop culture and presents “The Only Christopher We Acknowledge is Wallace”

BROOKLYN, NY, August 25, 2014 – “Your reign on the top was short like leprechauns…” Contrary to his lyrics, The Notorious B.I.G.’s influence on hip-hop and pop culture has remained steadfast and clearly visible for the past 20 years since his debut album, Ready to Die, was released. The Bishop Gallery in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn highlights the career, influence, and legacy of the late rapper in, The Only Christopher We Acknowledge is Wallace, opening Saturday, September 20, 2014.

“There was something about his voice and how it sounded over the music. His voice and the way he delivered the words made you want to listen closely to what B.I.G had to say. Then you’d listen and realize he not only sounded great, but that his words were so vivid his stories would come to life before your eyes “says gallery owner Erwin John.

Unlike John, the show’s curator DJ Clark Kent, not only had the pleasure of working with The Notorious B.I.G but he was also a close friend to the late great rapper.

The artwork featured in The Only Christopher we Acknowledge is Wallace  exhibition will include never before seen photos of the celebrated rapper along with hand-picked work from various artist by DJ Clark Kent.
