ABOUT
In his New York City debut, West African artist Solomon Adufah challenges the negative perceptions of his homeland. Born and raised in Ghana and currently residing in Chicago, Adufah often returns to Africa to volunteer in orphanages and small villages to teach and expose children to various art techniques. He uses his artistic practice to illuminate the beauty of Africa and its people. A self-taught artist, Adufah creates work that aims to “empower, promote, and celebrate the African culture.” His large-scale portraits are bright and bold, narrating his most recent trip to Ghana through the people he encountered. Using an extensive palette and a wealth of detail to emphasize human expression and traditional patterns, Solomon Adufah highlights the cultural landscape of Africa. |
